The citadel of Syria dates back to the 13th century. Possession of Matei Corvin at the beginning of the second half of the 15th century, it passed between 1461-1464 under the rule of the Bathory family. During the revolt of Gheorghe Doja, the fortress was temporarily occupied by his peasant gangs. Under Ottoman rule in the mid-seventeenth century, the fortress served as a garrison of Michael the Brave between 1599 and 1600. Subsequently, the fortress was again occupied by the Ottomans in 1607 and held by them until 1693. strategically, Habsburg troops destroyed the fortress in 1784.
